Reasons for backdating housing benefit

An example might be a delay due to someone being in hospital and having no one to help them make a claim on time.
From 1st April we may be able to backdate your Housing Benefit for up to 1 month, but you MUST have a good reason for not having claimed sooner.
It is therefore very important that you contact as soon as you want to claim.
Your claim will automatically be backdated for a maximum of 3 months depending on your circumstances. From April 2016 you can apply for backdated benefit for a maximum period of 1 month depending on your circumstances.
Local Council Tax Support has replaced Council Tax benefit and working age claimants will not be eligible for backdating.
